Installation of Nvidia Development Driver

Looks complicated, but at least it worked:

	* Download driver
	* Install gcc/g++ in all needed versions (for me: 4.4 for cuda and 4.6 for everything else), Confige update-alternatives
	* Install Proprietary Driver, set it up (TwinView if needed and so on), reboot few times to make sure this works.
	* Change to console (Ctrl+Alt+F1/F2...), log on
	* Stop X: sudo service lightdm stop
	* Remove nvidia-drivers: sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-comm…

Personal automount

This should work on wifi connections, which are usually established at login (not at boot time).

	* Create mountpoint owned by the user (not root)
	* Set SUID bit on /sbin/mount.cifs:
sudo chmod u+s /sbin/mount.cifs

	* Edit /etc/fstab:
//<server>/<share> /media/<mountpoint> cifs credentials=/home/<user>/.smbcredentials,noauto,users,iocharset=utf8,uid=<numeric_userid>,gid=<numeric_groupid,umask=000 0 0

This will be a collection of notes to remember what to install in what way to build a nice server using Ubuntu Linux. It was tested (in not a very carefull way) with the Gutsy Gibbon release (7.10) of Ubuntu.

Hardware

	* X - Ati Radeon 9600 Pro xorg.conf
	* Setting up LVM
	* Linux laptops and a beamer
